Twitter

You’re probably wondering what Twitter is and how Centerville City will use it.

From wikipedia.org, ”Twitter is a social networking and micro-blogging service that allows its users to send and read other users' updates (otherwise known as tweets), which are text-based posts of up to 140 characters in length."

Centerville City will be using it to get the word out to Twitter users. We will be posting “tweets” about recreation signups, meetings, and other City events that are coming up.

Now you’re probably wondering how you can get in on this. You can set up a free Twitter account at www.twitter.com and then go to www.twitter.com/centervilleut and simply click the “Follow” link. If you already have a Twitter account, just click the Twitter graphic above. You can receive our updates by accessing your Twitter account or through SMS, RSS, or a variety of other applications that can be used on a computer or on some cell phones.

Click here for more information from the University of Utah Center for Public Policy & Administration regarding Twitter and its use in government.

To receive Tweets via text message:

1. Login to your Twitter Account

2. Under Settings, Devices enter your cell phone number by following the onscreen instructions

3.  From the home page "What are you doing?" Select Following (These are the people you follow)

4. A list of people you follow will appear.  With "Device Updates On/Off" Select On for those tweeters you want to get tweets from via text.

Now the next time someone you are following sends out a tweet you will recieve it via text.
